Hospital Average Bed Occupancy
Report Requirements - 3/2/09
The Hospital Average Occupancy Report will be used by APS Healthcare, DHHS and hospitals to ensure that all reviews and discharges are accurate. This report will not display current daily occupancy and cannot be used to determine current daily bed availability.

Effective 3/2/09, in APS CareConnection®, hospitals must choose a “location” on the Administrative Page in each request that is submitted.

“Location” must be selected for each type of request:
Registration;
Continued Stay Request;
Initial Courtesy Review Courtesy;
Continued Stay Review.

The Hospital Average Bed Occupancy Report is posted on the Quality & Data page.
To ensure accurate Hospital Average Bed Occupancy Data, all facilities are required to follow the Maine ASO Hospital Requirements. Hospital Requirements are posted on the Provider page.
To summarize the requirements:

Register the consumer with APS within 1 business day of admission to the facility.

Ensure that there is no lapse in authorized days between continued stay authorizations.

Discharge consumer with APS within 1 business day of discharge from the facility.
Providers may submit registrations and discharges on the following Monday, for all admissions/discharges that take place on Saturday and Sunday.
These steps must be followed for both MaineCare members and for consumers without MaineCare eligibility.
